At the beginning, it was never Jimmy's intention to go organic. But they were right down the street from an organic almond farm, and Jimmy didn't want to risk contaminating his neighbor's farm. So instead, Jimmy began learning about soil health. He started using mineral fertilizers, Biochar, cover-cropping, and other regenerative practices that boost soil fertility.

It still was far from easy. It took about three years before Maul Ranch was finally certified organic!
