Cultivation Tips
• Soil requirements: Plant in loose, well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Avoid compacted soils so tubers can expand easily.
• Sunlight: Full sun (6–8+ hours daily) for best yields.
• Planting: Plant after the risk of frost has passed once soil temperatures begin to warm. Larger seed potatoes may be cut into pieces with at least one eye per piece before planting.
• Spacing: Plant seed pieces about 12 inches apart in rows spaced 30–36 inches apart.
• Watering: Potatoes require consistent moisture throughout the growing season, especially during early growth and after flowering when tubers are forming.
• Hilling: As plants grow, mound soil around the base of the stems to protect developing potatoes and increase yields.
• Crop rotation: Rotate potatoes to new planting areas every few years to reduce soil-borne disease pressure.
Harvesting
Yukon Gold potatoes are typically ready for harvest about 90–100 days after planting. Baby potatoes can be harvested earlier once tubers begin forming. For full-sized potatoes, allow plants to mature and harvest after the vines die back. Yukon Gold potatoes have a moderately short dormancy period and are excellent for fresh eating.

History
The Yukon Gold potato was developed in Canada in the early 1960s as a cross between a North American white potato and a wild South American yellow-fleshed variety. It quickly became one of the most popular potatoes worldwide thanks to its distinctive color, buttery flavor, and versatility in the kitchen.
