Have continuous berry production with Albion Strawberry Bare Root Plants. Ideal for spring planting, these day-neutral, everbearing plants deliver fresh strawberries throughout the summer and into fall, providing an extended harvest season.

Albion strawberries produce large, deep red, conical berries known for their firm, sweet flesh. These berries are exceptional for fresh eating as well as for use in pies, preserves, or freezing, offering versatile culinary options. They thrive in warmer climates and are self-pollinating, making them an excellent choice for gardeners who appreciate convenience and productivity.

This variety is notably resistant to verticillium wilt, phytophthora crown rot, and some anthracnose crown rot, enhancing their sustainability and reducing the need for chemical interventions. Albion strawberries require consistent moisture and benefit from nitrogen-rich fertilization to maintain their high yield. For optimal fruit size, space the plants wider than usual.

Key Features:

  • Extended Harvest: Enjoy a continual supply of strawberries all summer and into fall with these day-neutral, everbearing plants.
  • Large and Sweet Berries: The large, deep red berries are pleasing to the eye, rate “very good for flavor,” and are firm—perfect for various culinary uses.
  • Disease Resistance: Resistance to several common strawberry diseases makes Albion plants easier to maintain with fewer chemical treatments.
  • Consistent Moisture Needs: These strawberries thrive with regular watering and nitrogen support for prolific output.

Optimal Spacing for Growth: For the largest berries, plant your Albion Strawberry Bare Root Plants with more space (16” apart). This allows better air circulation, light penetration, and nutrient absorption, resulting in healthier plants and larger fruits.

Garden and Culinary Versatility: Whether enjoyed fresh, in desserts, or preserved, Albion strawberries bring exceptional flavor and texture to your table.

How are they sold? We sell in quantities of 10 plants, 25 plants, and 100 plants. They arrive as dormant bare root crowns (roots without soil). Upon receipt, unpack immediately, soak the roots in water for 1-2 hours (or up to overnight if needed), and plant as soon as possible. If planting is delayed, store in a cool, moist place (like the refrigerator) with roots wrapped in damp paper. Plant in early spring as soon as soil is workable.

Planting Instructions:

  • Plant in early spring when soil is workable and frost risk is low.
  • Choose a well-draining location with full sunlight (6+ hours daily).
  • Prepare the soil by incorporating compost or organic matter to improve fertility. Adjust pH to 6.5–6.8 if needed.
  • Soak bare roots in water for 1-2 hours before planting to rehydrate.
  • Dig a hole or trench deep and wide enough to spread roots fan-like without bending.
  • Plant so the crown (where roots meet the stem) is at soil level—not buried (to prevent rot) and not too high (to avoid drying).
  • Space plants 16 inches apart in rows 3-4 feet apart for best results.
  • Water thoroughly after planting and keep soil consistently moist (especially the first few weeks) while focusing on nitrogen-rich fertilization.
  • Remove any early flowers in the first season to encourage stronger root and plant development (day-neutral varieties like Albion may still produce later in the year).
  • Full planting instructions will be included with your order.
