- 3" Rooted Plants (Week 17 / Early April Shipping): Larger, more mature specimens with robust root systems—ready to burst into growth upon arrival. Skip the seedling stage and enjoy instant impact in your arrangements or landscapes.
Meet the Varieties
Each selection in our sampler is chosen for its unique charm, ease of growth, and aromatic appeal. Here's a closer look:
- Lemon Bush (Eucalyptus citriodora 'Lemon Bush'): A citrus-scented superstar with narrow, lance-shaped leaves that release a zesty lemon aroma when brushed. Its bright green foliage adds a fresh, uplifting vibe to bouquets and herb gardens. Compact and bushy, it grows to 4-6 feet tall, making it perfect for patios or as a hedge.
- Silver Dollar (Eucalyptus cinerea): The iconic "silver dollar" eucalyptus, famous for its round, coin-like blue-green leaves dusted in a powdery silver sheen. This variety's soft, fuzzy texture is a favorite for dried wreaths and holiday decor. It forms a small tree or shrub up to 8-10 feet, with a subtle menthol scent that invigorates the air.
-
StyX (Eucalyptus globulus 'StyX'): A compact powerhouse with rounded, juvenile leaves in striking silver-blue tones, clustered densely for a plump, globe-like appearance. Its bold form and waxy finish make it a standout in mixed planters or as cut filler. Expect bushy growth to 5-7 feet (with pruning), with a classic menthol-eucalyptus fragrance that's both calming and invigorating. Fast-growing and highly branched, it's a florist's dream for fresh or dried arrangements.
- Baby Blue (Eucalyptus pulverulenta 'Baby Blue'): Delicate and dreamy, this dwarf variety boasts small, rounded leaves in a soft baby-blue hue, evoking a misty morning sky. Ideal for petite spaces or cascading over edges, it reaches just 3-4 feet while packing a punch of silvery elegance and gentle citrus notes—perfect for intimate floral designs.
Growing Advice: Simple Steps to Success
Eucalyptus thrives with minimal fuss, rewarding you with fast growth and resilience. Follow these tips for lush, healthy plants:
- Light & Location: Full sun (6+ hours daily) is essential—place in a bright spot to enhance their vibrant colors and scents. They're frost-tolerant once established but protect young plants from hard freezes. We grow ours in our greenhouse for year round harvesting and robust growth.
- Soil & Watering: Well-drained, slightly acidic soil (pH 5.5-6.5) prevents root rot. Water deeply but infrequently; let the top inch of soil dry out between sessions. In pots, use a cactus/succulent mix amended with perlite for extra drainage.
- Fertilizing & Pruning: Feed monthly with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer during the growing season (spring-fall). Pinch tips regularly to encourage bushiness and harvestable foliage—eucalyptus responds beautifully to "cut-and-come-again" pruning.
- Pests & Care: Generally pest-resistant, but watch for aphids; a strong water spray or neem oil keeps them clean. In humid climates, ensure good air circulation to avoid fungal issues. Overwinter indoors in colder zones (USDA 8-11 hardy outdoors).
- Pro Tip: For cut-flower magic, harvest stems in the morning when hydrated, and condition in cool water with flower food. Dry bundles upside down for long-lasting decor.
