If you grow strawberries for flavor—not just yield, not just shelf life, not just shipping—this is the bundle for you. The Flavor Champions Bundle brings together the three highest-flavor varieties in our entire catalog, each chosen because it delivers something distinctive and unforgettable. These are the strawberries that turn first-time tasters into lifelong customers, that chefs request by name, that make farmers market shoppers walk past every other stand to reach yours.

Three varieties. Three completely different flavor experiences. One harvest window that proves modern strawberries can still taste extraordinary.

Shipping Info: This bundle will ship in fall 2026 (plug plants).

Key Features:

  1. The Sweetest Strawberry in USDA Trials: Keepsake produced the highest soluble solids (8.8% Brix) of any cultivar in USDA Beltsville testing—making it sweeter than any other variety we offer. Pure candy sweetness in every bite, with the tough skin that keeps berries firm for days after picking.
  2. Award-Winning Aromatic Complexity: Flavorfest has become the gold standard for Eastern strawberry flavor since its 2012 USDA Beltsville release. Complex, aromatic, perfectly balanced sweet-tart flavor with large uniform berries that hold their size from first pick to last—unusual and economically valuable for market growers.
  3. A Flavor Like Nothing Else: Malwina, bred in Germany by Peter Stoppel, delivers very large dark burgundy-red berries with deep, rich, almost wine-like flavor. There's nothing else in the modern strawberry world that tastes quite like it, which is exactly why chefs and direct-market customers will pay a premium for it.
  4. Extended Premium Harvest: Flavorfest and Keepsake produce together in mid-season for 3-4 weeks of side-by-side flavor comparisons. Then Malwina, the latest-ripening variety in our catalog, extends your harvest 2-3 weeks past everything else, often into mid-July in the north. Roughly 5-6 weeks of flavor-focused harvest from a single bundle.
  5. Built for Direct Markets and Discerning Customers: All three varieties are best suited for fresh eating, farmers markets, U-pick operations, CSA shares, and chef sales—channels where customers will pay for flavor that mass-market shipping varieties simply cannot match. This bundle is how you differentiate from competitors growing commodity California varieties.

About the Varieties:

Flavorfest (Mid-Season) — USDA Beltsville, 2012. The flagship for modern Eastern strawberry flavor. Complex, aromatic, balanced sweet-tart. Large uniform berries that hold size through the entire harvest window. Strong disease resistance and excellent organic performance make it well-suited to low-input growing.

Keepsake (Mid-Season) — USDA Beltsville, 2019. The sweetness champion of our catalog. 8.8% Brix versus Flavorfest's 7.6% — meaningfully sweeter. Tough skin gives excellent shelf life. Striking long-calyx appearance is visually distinctive on display.

Malwina (Very Late Season) — German breeding by Peter Stoppel. Very large dark burgundy-red berries with deep, complex, aromatic, almost wine-like flavor. The latest-ripening variety in our catalog, extending your harvest weeks past the typical strawberry season. A genuine chef's strawberry.

How are they sold?

This bundle includes 12 plants total: 4 of each variety.

Plants arrive as plug plants (fall shipping) — please unpack as soon as you receive them, water well, and keep in the shade for the first couple of days before planting.

Our Growing Approach: Every plant in this bundle is grown using organic and regenerative practices on our Ohio nursery. We focus on building strong, healthy transplants through biological soil management rather than synthetic inputs. The result is plants that establish quickly and adapt well to your conditions, whether you're growing organically or conventionally.

Planting Instructions:

  1. Choose a well-draining location with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight.
  2. Prepare the soil by incorporating compost or organic matter to improve fertility. Take a soil test to see what additional nutrients you may need.
  3. Plant the strawberries at a depth where the crown is just above the soil surface — too deep and the crown rots, too shallow and the roots dry out.
  4. Space plants 14-18 inches apart in rows 3-4 feet apart for matted-row systems. Flavorfest in particular benefits from wider spacing (16-18 inches) for canopy management in humid climates.
  5. Water well after planting and maintain consistent moisture throughout the establishment period (especially the first 4-6 weeks).
  6. Pinch off flowers for the first 4-6 weeks after spring planting to build crown size before fruiting begins.
  7. Manage canopy in Flavorfest and Malwina through leaf-stripping at early bloom to improve airflow and reduce Botrytis risk in wet years.
  8. Full planting instructions will be included with your order.
Bundle Tip: Plan a side-by-side tasting when your Flavorfest and Keepsake come on at the same time. Tasting them next to each other—same growing conditions, same day, same picker—is a strawberry education you can't get any other way. Many customers find they have a strong preference between aromatic complexity (Flavorfest) and pure sweetness (Keepsake), which helps them choose which to plant heavier in future seasons.

Non-GMO Commitment: At Growing Farmers and The Farm on Central, all our plants are guaranteed non-GMO and not genetically modified in any way, upholding natural breeding methods and promoting sustainable gardening and farming practices.
