Growing Information

🌱 Plant Type: Black raspberry (summer-bearing / floricane) – plant plug
🌱 Hardiness Zones: 5–8
🌱 When to Plant: Spring, once risk of hard frost has passed
🌱 When to Harvest: Early to mid-summer (similar timing to Jewel black raspberry)

Cultivation Tips

Soil requirements: Plant in well-drained, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Avoid low spots where water may pool.
Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade. Full sun encourages stronger growth and higher fruit quality.
Watering: Water consistently, especially during establishment and dry periods. Soil should remain moist but not soggy. Mulching helps retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Harvesting: Berries are ready when fully black and release easily from the plant. Harvest every few days during peak season.
Pruning: Fruit is produced on second-year canes. After harvest, remove spent floricanes at ground level. Thin first-year canes in late winter to maintain airflow and manage plant size.
Growth habit: More upright and vigorous than traditional spiny black raspberries, making training and maintenance easier.
Pollination: Self-fertile—no separate pollinator required.
