White Spanish Onion Plants (Long-Day)

White Spanish is a time-tested heirloom onion straight from Mediterranean Spain—where onions have flavored dishes for millennia and were prized by ancient Egyptians as symbols of eternity. This long-day variety thrives in northern gardens, producing jumbo (up to 5"), crisp white bulbs with mild, sweet flavor that’s perfect raw in salads, grilled, or stored through winter. Each bundle contains 75 healthy, premium, non-GMO plants grown with natural and regenerative practices

Key Details at a Glance

  • Day length: Long-Day (best in zones 3–6)
  • Days to maturity: 110–120 from transplant
  • Mature bulb size: 3–5+ inches, up to 1–2 lbs each
  • Storage life: 4–6 months when cured
  • Bundle size: 75 bare-root plants

Why Grow White Spanish?

  • Versatile flavor – Mildly sweet, low pungency; ideal for raw eating (sandwiches, salsa), cooking (soups, stews), or caramelizing.
  • Jumbo yields – One of the largest white onions; high productivity in small spaces.
  • Excellent keeper – Outstores most sweet onions; feed your family fresh bulbs into late winter.
  • Heirloom quality – Open-pollinated, non-GMO, true-to-type for seed saving.
  • Beginner-friendly – Strong pest/disease resistance, easy to peel, adaptable to various soils.

Growing Tips Direct-transplant as soon as soil can be worked in early spring (soil ≥40°F). Space 4–6″ apart in rows 12–18″ apart. Provide full sun, consistent moisture (1″ weekly), and occasional nitrogen boosts. Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Harvest when 50–70% of tops yellow and fall over; cure in a dry, airy spot for 2–3 weeks.
